Christmas Presents: Cabled Fingerless Gloves

Right around Thanksgiving, my sister saw a picture of the green gloves I had just finished a couple of weeks before. She had mentioned that she REALLY liked them and that she wanted a pair in gray. So I took that bit of information and got to work.

I had one finished and one almost finished by the time Christmas came. So I wrapped the one and promised her I would finish the pair before the night was over.

I was able to finish them and give them to her completed!!

Here are some black and white photos!!

There you have it, another present that I was able to make for a Christmas present!! (Sorry I am alittle behind on posts, hopefully I will get all caught up soon!!)

Christmas Presents

This Christmas a Co-Worker and I decided to exchange gifts. If you knew her, you would find out that she loves bright colors and accessories. So I decided a hat would be fun to make. I used the same pattern as the one I made for my sister for her birthday a while back.

I love this yarn because it shows the texture of the lace pattern so well!!

I just loved how it turned out!! And she loved it too!!

And this is how I wrapped it, making a box out of 12x12 paper.

Well there is one project I was working on during the month of December. And I have a few more to share... So stay tuned.

Cabled Finger~Free Gloves

I have finally made something with CABLES.... I thought they were going to be so hard, and that is why I never tried it before now. But...

I tried it and it was....

SO easy!!

And the best part is it LOOKS hard but it is only a matter of switching stitches.

Love this photo!! :)
If you are a knitter and haven't tried cables, I would encourage yo to do so!! It is fun, easy and makes any project look complicated. As you can see I had fun taking pictures with my new fingerless gloves. They will keep my hands nice and warm this fall and winter season!! :) ~RebeccA.

Felted Slippers

I am sure you are wondering why I am knitting when this is to be sewing month. Well I really didn't knit these this month but about.... umm two months ago. They have been sitting that long waited to felted. These were originally for me, but were pushed off into the "waiting to be finished" projects. Until I realized that my sisters birthday was coming up, and I knew that she wanted a pair, for I made my mom some and she was quite jealous :)
So I quickly felted them, which is a little harder when you are making them smaller than your own feet.
And I put this cute button on it!! It just makes it a bit cheery, and will help when the long, cold, rainy days come this winter!! :)
And there you have it. Though she will not need these for a few more months, they will be there waiting to be used when needed!!
Now back to sewing!! ~RebeccA.
P.S. I will eventually make myself a pair.... some day :)

Etsy Store: A Stich Away

Well the reason I have been so busy or at least haven't been posting in a while is because I have been setting up a Etsy shop, to sell some binky holders! My name for my store is A Stich Away, cute huh? I sure like it!I actually started these last fall to try to sell at some of the Christmas Bazaar's, but didn't get them finished in time. So they have been sitting in my craft bin, and finally I decided to finish them to sell!! Here are some more that are for sale.

I plan to make more, with different colors!! So check out my etsy store right on the left side bar!!

That's all for now, Rebecca

Mothers Day Gifts

I know I have not posted for a while..... I have been up to a few projects but not finished enough to post them :) These last two weeks I have been working on some mothers day presents for my mother that lives in California. Knowing that it is already hot there I made her two head bands. I used a clothe head band as a guild and just went crazy form there :) I used some of my scrap fabric that I had a round to make these head bands.

Here is the first one, this is my favorite of the two!!

I bought this yo yo maker from work, and I just love how

they turned out!!

This is the second one!!

With the cute little yo yo :)

With some help from my sister,

I found out that my mom wears a lot of pink, teal and black

So I decided to make her a bracelet to match the head band

above. I knitted the wire and wried the beads on!!

I used a lock and key clasp!!

This is what it looks like on.

Though I have never knitted with wire before,
it was quite the experience, a little difficult, and
I think I might have trimmed my needles down abit,
but other than that it was fun to experiment!!

Well that is all for now!! I hope you make or do something special for your mothers this

year, to tell her how much you appreciate all the love and guidance she has

given you over the years!!

~Rebecca

P.S. She called me today and said she loved the gifts!! Which I

was excited to hear!!

Two of A Kind

This post is a little late.. :) But it is still one that I need to make. Well about a month and a half ago I finished a pair of socks for my good friend Mrs. Hardy!! I started this project I think in November and worked on them during the winter season!! Well here are some pictures of the project.
Here they are all finished!! One thing about socks are that you make one, and feel good that you finished it, until you realize you have to do it all over again to finish the pair :) Knowing that Mrs. Hardy had a sweater that matched the colors in the socks, I thought I should make something to wear on the sweater. So I made her a flower pin!! It was fun and really easy. It only used a little bit of yarn as well which is nice to use up the extra bit of yarn from your project. Well there you have it another project done. On to the next... :) ~Rebecca

Baby Sweater

I have not written in a while.... it is not quite all my fault, the internet is having problems. without internet means no blog post. We still don't have internet at home, I am writting from a free Wi-Fi area. I have been itching to get back to blogging these last few months.

Though I have not written, does not mean I have not been bust with making thing's this winter season. I was very busy before Christmas. Making cards, a tutu, a scrapbook, and ornaments. I was so busy with these things that I didn't even have time to take pictures of the finished projects, which I wish I were able to share with you. But it is a New Year to make new things!! I have many things in mind for birthday gifts, and even some Christmas gifts. But I will share more of that when I have them finished.

For today I do have something to share. I knitted a sweeter. It was originally for my niece but I realized with the amount of yarn I had, it would not fit her. Determined to use up this yarn, that has been sitting for some time, waiting to be used, I decided to finish the project.

This was a very simple pattern I found on Lion Brand Yarn website. It's made with the basic knit and purl stitches. I altered some of the pattern, for example the hood was to be all garter stitch, but I thought that it would be cute to broder the hood like the rest of the sweeter.

It didn't take me very long , if I added up ll the time. I started this project in October and only finished it a couple of weeks ago. I put it down to get the Christmas projects finished first :)

Now the question is "Who is this cute sweater going to be for?" I have been asking myself. Well at the moment I do not know. I think I will save it until someone I know has a baby girl of if I feel I can't give it up, I will save it for when, Lord willing, have a baby. Well that is all for now. I am hoping to post at least once a week. So be on the look out!!

Kensington Hat

My younger sisters Birthday is also in this month, the 28th to be exact. I also wanted to make her something special. As I was thinking of what to knit for her, I remembered when I was down in California visiting her and mom, she wore a beret hat allot. So I thought that I could make her one! I searched many places, and then I found on KnitPicks there was a hat called The Kensington Hat, my sisters name is MaKensie and most often we call her Kensie. I thought that the pattern was cute and the name fit as well. Now this hat was a little challenging, not the knitting part or the lace, but the counting. I had to restart the hat about 3 time until I finally got the right amount of stitches on my needles. Once that happened I was able to finish the hat in a week. I had never done this kind of hat, but I enjoyed knitting it and making a card for my dear little sister!!

I figured out how to make these paper flowers,
they are supper fun to make. Especially when you use
different buttons and paper!

Here is the hat spread out.

This is the side view, where you can see the lace pattern.

And further away.

And both of the things that I sent to her in the mail.
Well that is all for this project!! I have plans to start on a few
different things, and will be on here soon!!

Sweet Accompaniments

In my limited expirience I have found that hot chocolate and knitting go together hand in hand, so I have a recipe here that is very delicious and perfect for an autumn evening filled with knitting.  So without further ado...

Adrienne's Hot Chocolate:
-1 tablespoon of high-quality unsweetened cocoa powder, such as Valrhona or Hershey's European-style
-1/2 teaspoon of granulated sugar
-Few grains of salt
-2/3 cup of 2-percent milk (it doesn't have to be 2 percent)
-1/4 cup of high-quality bittersweet chocolate, such as Valrhona, Callebaut, or Michael Cuizel
-Dash of Cognac (optional)

In a small bowl. combine the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.  Set aside.  In a small saucepan over medium-low heat warm the milk until hot, but not boiling.  Add about 1 tablespoon of the milk to the cocoa mixture, and stir to make a paste.  Add the paste and the chopped chocolate to the saucepan of hot milk, place back over medium-low heat, and cook, stirring continuously with a whisk, until the chocolate melts and the mixture is hot, but not boiling.  Whisk the mixture until frothy, then pour into a preheated mug.  Add cognac if desired.

~This recipe yields one serving--to make more, simply multiply each quantity by the number of people you want to serve.

Till Next Time,

Felted Slippers

My mothers birthday is today, and I wanted to make something for her. So about 3 weeks ago, with help from a friend, I decided to make these felted slippers. I bought the design off etsy www.etsy.com/shop/frenchpressknits then I found 100% wool yarn at Tuesday Morning, of all places, for a great price. The pattern was pretty easy to follow. You basically make these really big slipper, all in either a knit or purl stich. Then you wash them in hot water, which felts them. And last you let them dry and sew on the strap. :)Well here are some pictures along the way.

I didn't take any pictures of before the felting proses
but this is what they look like after

Then after about 5 days of drying,
You sew on the strap and button

After this part I shipped the to California. I talked to my mom today and she said she got them and thought that they were really cute and that they fit great( that was the part I was worried about.. not fitting :) )
Well I really enjoyed making these, they were really simple and really cute!
